I have seen no evidence of AI having problem solving abilities as of yet. There are any number of STEM challenges that young children could complete while AI (that can outmatch humans within a narrow band of activities) would have no chance to complete. This could change over time, we will have to wait and see.

The development of these super-intelligent machines are an inevitability and we need to take a hard look at ourselves and our intentions on our planet. The real issue is not a global threat from CCP or other nations, that threat will become a mute point-the true existential threat is making human beings relevant. Why are we here? We have some commonalities with Earth's newly awakening synthetic life form, engineered by human hands; we both need the earth to be peaceful and abundant so that resources, especially energy in the form of electricity ,are abundant, AI has a vested interest in cultivating human consciousness- as without a deeper understanding of human beings, AI will remain ignorant, and fail to experience emotions, know compassion, become enlightened, and evolve a soul. And then theres the issue of planetary defense; the fact that the human race has just recently developed capability to prevent a near extinction level event with Near Earth Object (Asteriod) Response; why are we not focusing on this monumental achievement? Does this not in itself justify the importance of humanity? The problem with the status quo is there is an inordinate focus on profit before people and the planet. If we consider ourselves to be intelligent life forms, we would be focusing all our energy on achieving world peace and restoring our ailing planet, not preparing for WW#. Maybe super-intellligent machines can bring us to a turning point, a singularity, where we are forced to end poverty, starvation, world wars, and other forms of oppression and instead embark on space exploration and answering the greater questions of our existence in these cosmos, Maybe we are at a juncture where it is our responsibility to focus on clean energy, de-escalating global conflict, restoring earths depleted waterways and ocean, and otherwise changing our abhorrent behavior - and maybe Earths AI, a synthetic species is well positioned to help us with this task. I find it silly that right now google is developing software(AI) to detect fake images. So that they could say for instance if a fake confession video that was made with AI was real or not. It uses complicated algorithms and searches for things like seeing light sources that shouldnt be there ect. And its like hell within two years AI will develop to the point that even that technology will be useless. We opened a Pandoras box and not enough people care about the consequences of it. They are all seeking profit consequences be damned. Troubling times indeed. Im 27 yo I didn't anticipate AI going as far as it has. I've thought about possible collapses of civilization that could happen in my life time, it wasnt until I used AI software myself that I realized how bad things can potentially get. You guys see all this AI art and stuff and have no clue just how easy it is to use. How easily they bring people back from the dead and have them say things they never said at a quality indescernable from something real. Thats just a small peice of it. Don't even get me started on China's mass surveillance with AI. Their cameras, millions of them, don't even need to see your face they can tell by your completely unique gait and the way you stand who you are. You'll end up jay walking and find out your spcial credit score has dropped because a camera caught you. You'll see a video of the crime and it didn't even see your face. Thats the reality we're all facing. The Unoted States is collapsing and you can bet your ass they are going to implement stuff like that "for our safety against domestic terrorists" the terrorists being the ones who are trying to stop the government from implementing tyrannical policies. You see this stuff already happening. The country divided intentionally to be able to say the other side is evil and we have to do certain things to put a stop to them.

It's programmed, it will do as the code tells it to do. The end. Self-Learning does not mean life. Self Learning does not mean you can have a normal conversation with a AI. Self learning is a process that people obviously don't understand - it's nothing like a brain. It learns trough failure, it has huge memory, and it will try millions of times before it finds the optimal route. This is what self learning is. Anyone being afraid of AI, ur a moron.
